  • Sometimes things are just too much to handle! That’s what this blogger thinks and so does the Eight of Swords! Look at the poor woman blindfolded and tied up with ropes. How did she get into that muddle? Who knows, but let’s see if we can help her get out. What do you think is stopping her from shucking off her ropes and stepping around the swords? This blogger thinks fear. Fear is keeping her blindfold on and her ropes in place. She is running from her life experiences even as she stands still. If she were to truly look at her fear for what it is, she would see it is just an emotion. And if she were to look at what she is fearful of, she would see it is a life-path she would prefer not to take. Let’s encourage her to sit with the fear. Feel the discomfort. It won’t kill you, we can tell her. Once the emotion is out of the way, then there can be clarity of thought to plan the next right step. “A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it.” -  J.R.R. Tolkien

  • The Queen of Pentacles says to us, Be protective of all of our resources! We can start with our bodies, our most precious resource, nurturing ourselves, eating and sleeping well and exercising. We can move outward to our closest community and to our homes, then, we can look at our finances, our cars and our neighbourhoods! The queen protects and makes grow. She shows the symbol of resources with her coin. We can see resources as more than just money. We can see it as health, talent, time and our dreams. “Taking a new step, uttering a new word is what people fear most.” Fyodor Dostoyevski

  • The Fool leaps without looking. Many would say that is stupid but the wiser of us know he gains more opportunity and experiences less stress than the rest of us. So often we are paralysed from acting by fear. We cannot gain the fool’s foolhardiness just by wishing for it but we can learn to take the next step and give less credence to our fears. Let our fear be present but only as an old friend who we allow to hang around but don’t listen to. So give your fear a cup of tea and a cookie and get on with life! “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” - Yoda

  • When a loved one is possibly seriously sick, our fear and sadness can be overwhelming. The Three of Swords shows us pain on three levels. It can relate our present pain to pains from our past or it can mean a complexity of emotion. Understanding that peace can be found in the face of an uncertain future can help. We can go into our deep inside ourselves to our quietest place and reside there. Busyness can feel helpful at these difficult times but busyness done slowly and quietly working all the while to maintain the quiet within. Have faith that the universe us knows what is best and send all the love you can to your beloved. “We never know how high we are until we are called to rise.” - Emily Dickinson

  • Sometimes we fight to hold things together, not wanting to let go and let the chips fall where they may. The easiest path is often the best path. Let go. Let the worst happen and then afterwards we can pick up the pieces. Don’t let the picture on the 10 of Swords card scare you. Look inside; you are still you. The true gem here is accepting the outcome. Relief awaits you. Take a nice hot bath. “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes” -Marcel Proust

  • When you think that your energy stores are empty, the Nine of Rods says, think again! We all have enough strength to carry us through until the job is done. The Nine of Rods tells the story of a man tired and returning from battle. The story goes on to tell us that inspite of his exhaustion, should the need arise he still can fight again. He can trust that he has what he needs! His energy well is bottomless, his strength is limitless and there is no need for him to waste time on fear. What is true for our battling friend is true for you and me. “Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings”. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

  • Is there a relationship in your past that is broken and you secretly wish it could be healed? The Six of Cups suggests a childlike clarity in relationships that is lost in adulthood with our accumulation of fear and resentment. Today is a good day to let go and be open to that clarity, see the truth of possible potential and act with courage in the direction of your heart’s desire. “We are all apprentices in a craft where no one becomes a master”. Ernest Hemingway
